More layoffs coming in the Metaverse? According to an in-house newsletter, ZuckerNozzle reportedly said he's not a fan of all those layers of management. "I don't think you want a management structure that's just managers managing managers, managing managers, managing managers, managing the people who are doing the work." (He certainly has a way with words!) Earlier in January, the company's chief product officer Chris Cox reportedly wrote a post on Meta's communication platform Workplace about the need to "flatten" the company's organizational structure. The writer Alex Heath thinks it all implies that "more layoffs are coming."

As we are constantly reminded, 1% of the world’s richest people enjoy 99% of the world’s goodies. Case in point... Over at MoreAboutAdvertising there’s a spot for Cartier’s Tank Francaise watch. Directed by Guy Ritchie (He used to be married to Madonna... Remember?) Starring Catherine Deneuve (Isn’t she about a hundred now?) reprising stuff she did years ago whilst flashing a $11,000 watch. Must have cost a fortune to make. Still, as parent company LVMH belongs to the world’s richest geezer. It’s just a drop in the diamond bucket.

Last week was the fortieth anniversary of the launch of the Apple Lisa. It was the predecessor of the Mac and was named after Steve Jobs’ daughter, even though Jobs denied the connection and the fact that he was her father, refusing to give child support for years. But the more interesting thing about the Lisa computer was how it evolved into something unique: It was the first personal computer with a graphical user interface (GUI) and a mouse. Even so, It failed. Not surprising when you consider that the Lisa’s launch price was $9,995, which would be nearly $30,000 today. This was too much for home users. Business owners—the target market for the Lisa—might pay this much, but they would expect a computer to support multiple users connected via cheap text-based terminals and to run number crunching accounting software, not esoteric design apps for budding graphic artists.

Golf Cheater Extraordinaire... Der Trumpf, is boasting about a victory in a competitive tournament at one of his clubs. Achieving this despite missing the first day of the weekend-long tournament. He announced his win in the Senior Club Championship at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, on his fucked-up media platform Truth Social. Der Trumpf’s announcement, however, may have come as a surprise to those following his movements this weekend, since a video appeared online of him delivering a rambling, incoherent eulogy (mostly to himself) at the funeral of the  vlogger Diamond on Saturday.

More Metaverse miseries...

Good article over at “Insider.” Titled, “Mass layoffs in Silicon Valley spell doom for the Metaverse.” It gives several glaring examples of how fucked up everything in ZuckerNozzle’s pipe dream are becoming. This one made me chuckle... Microsoft struck a five-year deal worth $21.88 Billion with the US military to produce 120,000 HoloLens headsets. So far, they haven’t met the standards demanded by the military. It is reported that they suffer from visibility issues in low light – conditions that soldiers will need to feel comfortable in. Other issues reported include limited peripheral vision while the headset is worn and a glow from the device that makes it easily visible. In other words, It’s a sniper’s dream.

I am sorry... I just don’t get it...

The news that Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, married his long-time love, Dr. Anca Faur, on Friday, his 93^rd birthday, leaves me with the question... Why the fuck bother? At 85, I can barely get out of bed to avoid wetting myself in the middle of the night. As for any other “activity” you can Fuckedabout it!!!

The fuss continues over AI content.

There are more and more reports emerging about companies, particularly in publishing, backing off the use of AI to write content. However, this doesn’t seem to be effecting the 800 pound gorilla in the room, Google, who had this to say... “Our ranking team focuses on the usefulness of content, rather than how the content is produced. This allows us to create solutions that aim to reduce all types of unhelpful content in Search, whether it’s produced by humans or through automated processes." Just as long as the dosh rolls in, who gives a shit how it’s produced.
