We’ve just got rid of Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year are yet to come, but already, the ad rags are going on about next year’s Super Bowl. At seven million dollars for a single 30 second spot AdWeek tells us that the pressure is on for brands trying to get their message in front of the Big Game's audience (which drew 208 million viewers last year). AdWeek, in its infallible wisdom advises us that one way of going down in Super Bowl commercial history is to spend several million more dollars and bring in a celebrity. According to a recent study, close to two-thirds of Super Bowl ads now have celebrity appearances, with many tapping multiple figures to star in their commercials. In other words, forget about being creative and making a memorable spot. Blow a shitload of money on a star. Shoot it now then run it non-stop in the weeks leading up to Bowl day, along with all the other star spots.
It was starless and ran just once... Remember?
