As there seems to be a fair amount of interest in the minutia of my Peter O’Toole post yesterday and my poker game with the hell-raising stars of the UK… Here are the gory details… The well known American composer then living in London was Jeff Wayne, son of famous actor, Jerry Wayne. Even though he was born in the States, Jeff has lived most of his life in the UK, and still does. He did all the music for my McVitie’s campaign – Which was, at the time the most expensive shoot ever – It’s all in “Confessions of a Mad Man,” so buy the fucking thing. Jeff is still very active (Geezers rule!) and has an impressive body of work… OK… Yes, the other players included Peter O’Toole, Sean Connery, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed. All great actors, all piss artists, and all quite rich at the time. Consequently, the bets were outrageous. I managed to hang in for about an hour, then was forced to retire to the bar and get wasted on my "Agency Fireman" credit card. (Which is also in the book.) Ah, the good old days. I’m sure that kind of behavior would be severely frowned on these days… To which I would be forced to reply. Fuck it, you had to be there… Cheers!
They don't make 'em like that anymore!
