Reading the details about Ogilvy's move to the far West in 2009 makes you realize why the ad biz is as fucked as it is. It seems that the property was built in 1913 and originally housed the Auerbach Chocolate company, hence it is known in real estate circles as "The Candy Factory!" I guess the new O&M tag line will be "The Candy Man Can!" The good news is that the location is close to a long-proposed extension of the No.7 New York Subway Line. The bad news is that they've been talking about that extension since 1913. The best bit though is this... Chris Wall, vice chairman of the creative team at Ogilvy New York, says in a prepared statement that "this is the ultimate creative assignment--the chance to remake Ogilvy both physically and spiritually for the way the world is going to work tomorrow and 10 years from tomorrow. A new neighborhood, a new space, a new way of working--it's like winning a huge new account. Now all we have to figure out is how to be a good client." Sorry Chris, moving into "The Candy Factory" is not like winning a huge new account. Ask the Poisoned Dwarf. He's the fucker paying for it!
Here at the Candy Factory, we do cool and groovy things!
