Merry fucking Christmas!

As a final Christmas Eve sign off, I want to say Merry Christmas, or Holiday, if you prefer, and thanks to everyone for stopping by on a regular basis. In my last post I raved a bit about all those fucking ads in English that are supposed to run in Brazil and Kosovo. You know that ones that win Zirconium Lions at the fucking Montenegro Awards, or whatever. So, I just came across another fucker. It's part of an advertising campaign for a German recruiting agency called Jobsintown. This particular gem gets stuck on the side of information terminals at train stations. OK, it's a clever idea from Scholz & Friends, Berlin, but if it's for a GERMAN company, and I assume it's aimed at a GERMAN audience... Why the fuck is it in ENGLISH? Maybe "The Kaiser" has an idea?

A little tub thumping here... And please excuse me on this... As I have posted umpteen times before, I do not do reviews of ads and campaigns that were supposed to run in Kosovo, even though they were all in English and for the local tattoo parlor, not too mention winning the Zirconium dildo at Cannes... OK, that's getting old... But, what I do enjoy is the fact that AdScam is becoming a forum for people who are incredibly PISSED OFF with the current state of the ad business and the way they are consistently being taken advantage of by the WANKERS who employ them... Until these fuckers in the corner office with their private gyms decide the only way to make the next quarters numbers look good is to lay off a few hundred of the fucking peons who exist out there in the "no more barriers" open space. Meantime, let's hire another couple of dozen illegal's to manicure the fucking lawns of our Hampton's show house. OK, here's my prediction for 2008... It'll get worse! Shit time for a glass of Christmas Cheer... Cheers/George.

Go easy with the "Wankers!"

I think I may have solved the mystery of the rejected comments. Checking out the blocked comments on the TypePad control panel for AdScam. Six comments were blocked... They all contained the word WANKER! Which is strange, 'cos as you all know, that is one of my favorite words and I used it rather frequently. Perhaps TypePad only allows the blogger to use it, not the commentator. So, I cleared the blocked comments box. Just did a test comment using the word WANKER on the "Is IPG fucking with AdScam." post of the 20th. It didn't get blocked. However, if you do get blocked with a WANKER comment. I suggest an excellent British substitute, TOSSER! Pop and The Cartoonist will explain. Otherwise... FUCK IT!

Several AdScam readers have hinted that things could start getting a bit rough in the ad biz early in 2008. That might just be the understatement of the year. My various sources assure me that there are definitely up-coming, serious, and wide ranging redundancies to be announced in January at Draft/FCB (no big fucking surprises there!) and O&M... Which hasn't picked up anything of note for over three years. And London sources tell me "The Poisoned Dwarf" in his basement lair is uber/pissed with Shelly, and in order to save herself, many O&M bodies, including some rather senior ones will be "pursuing other opportunities" early next year. McCann will start some serious downsizing when all of Microsoft goes, to be followed rapidly by Intel... Fuck the place will implode. Couldn't happen to a bigger bunch of wankers. Yet another outpost of Sorrel's empire, Y&R is also looking to shed bodies after a couple of really lackluster years. Maybe everyone can get hired by DaVinci and become brain-dead dudes!

Microsoft going to Animal House?

Today's AdAge news that Microsoft has kicked McCann and JWT out of the final round for their $300 million consumer campaign doesn't surprise me. McCann has been doing shit for them ever since they picked up the account and deserves to eventually lost the whole thing... Which they will, believe me. As for JWT... I don't know who they had working on the pitch, but they made one huge mistake... They didn't call me in... Fucking modest... Me? Just a bit. Anyway. The two finalists are Fallon and CP+B. I know it's for consumer shit... But, if CP+B gets it, I give it a fucking year. I know Microsoft, I've worked on it at various places. They are fucking impossible. In a recent NYT article about the difference in the way MS works compared to Google, it was pointed out that MS takes fucking months to do anything. Google takes days, sometime just hours. CP+B and MS will be like oil and water. There's a great quote about MS from Rob Enderle in the AdAge piece... "Right now, their marketing sucks," he said, adding the problem does not rest solely on the shoulders of its ad agency. "They've got a serious problem. And I'm not absolutely convinced an agency can fix this." Too fucking true Rob... And when it comes to CP+ you can say that in spades.

Good news for Lowe New York. Bad news for Wieden & Kennedy. The rumors of the impending move of Sharp Electronic's Aquos LCD TV account are about to become a fact. Lowe New York Chairman-Chief Creative Officer Mark Wnek ( A really nice bloke) is said to be organizing a massive "Tea and Crumpets" party for the troops. It's definitely a feather in the cap for the New York office which has suffered a bit of a battering since "Sir Frank" popped in one of his "Rollers" and drove off down the Red Brick Road. Not sure of the size of the spend yet, but I imagine it will nudge the $100 million mark. I would assume that's one less nail in the lid of Michael Roth's coffin... For now. Well fucking done, Mark!

Now and again, I like to check out where my traffic is coming from, as you would expect, I get most of it from the US, the UK and Canada, but there's quite a bit of traffic from other parts of the world... I even have a couple of regular readers in Iran! I also often check back on the links to see what kind of blogs out there are linking to mine. Some are very fucking good. There's a really interesting Spanish language blog out there by the name of JCL Publicidad, which seems to specialize in below the line, and gorilla Marketing. I don't know if the stuff in the blog is theirs or not, as I can't read Spanish... Well, after a few drinks, I probably could. I don't even know where they are, but I have a suspicion they are in Mexico. Anyway you should check it out, 'cos there's lots of good stuff on it... Here's a sample.

Is IPG fucking with AdScam?

LAM tried to post a comment this morning and it was rejected... He wonders if IPG is fucking with my blog? Lower Depths also had a comment rejected yesterday... What the fuck is going on? I'll check it at my end and see if I can fix it... If anyone else has a problem, let me know. In the meantime, here is LAM's comment... "Need a Tax Loss?  In search of a stock headed south? The Interpublic Group of Companies recently e-mailed their Annual Notice to all their business unit employees soliciting Payroll Deduction Sign-ups for IPG stock(the notice actually went out twice because there were some “mistakes” in the first notice).  It’s a wonder the entire IPG Network’s IT system didn’t crash due to the universal simultaneous application of the “delete” button upon each business unit employee’s receipt of this remarkable “offering.” Of course one can assume that over at Draft/FCB Huey, Dewey and Louey held guns to their remaining employee’s heads “encouraging” them to partake in the mothership’s stock plan…after all, it IS because of Howard Draft that Michael Roth became the unfortunate choice to head up IPG….and the rest is history…thus, my question remains: Why isn’t Michael “history??”  Good fucking question!

Guys... I am beginning to get all kinds of stinky cheese smells from the dank, rank cellars, hidden in the the bowels of Interpublic... Not just about the goings on with Hughie, Dewie & Louie and their respective private gyms, cell phones, "Effen-Effen" supplies, etc., which seem to be occuring on a daily basis at my most favorite agency; Draft/Schmaft/Daft & FCB, but all kinds of other shit that seems to be floating to the surface at the beleaguered outposts of McCann, San Francisco, and other offices on a daily basis. All I can say is... Read the comments to my various posts... These are from the poor fuckers chained to the oars of the galley ship, IPG. If things don't change for them, they will go down with the ship... Meantime the "Officers" will abandon ship, with their golden parachutes, then hit the road back to their lovenests in the Hampton's. But, then again, isn't that the way it's always been?
