This just in from our London bureau - Lee and Dan, the creative team behind the fake VW Polo ad showing a suicide bomber, which sparked controversy in January, have been hired by the advertising agency Quiet Storm. Dan and Lee were at the center of a media flare-up in January, after their speculative ad, based on the Volkswagen Polo slogan "Small but tough", made its way into the public domain and spread via the Internet, leading to headlines all over the world. Volkswagen denied it had any involvement in the campaign and ended up threatening the duo with legal action. The German car maker eventually dropped proceedings after they apologized. Ford, 33, has worked before at Ogilvy & Mather, but Brooks, 30, has not worked at an agency before. The speculative ad that propelled them to fame showed a Middle Eastern man in fatigues in his Polo. He arrived outside a restaurant and pulled out a trigger. But, when he detonated the bomb, a flash was seen inside the car, killing the suicide bomber, leaving the car and the oblivious diners unscathed. Lee and Dan joined the agency this week, but Quiet Storm would not say which clients they are working on. The agency works for brands including Heat magazine, Cheestrings and the Girl Guide Association.
OK. So, all of a sudden you two gits are famous and all you can get to work on is a cheesy Pop music magazine, a cheesy fast-food, and a cheesy organization for pre-teen Britney wanna-be's. As for the agency name... That's pretty cheesy too!
