Terrible news yesterday that Chris Wall had died of cancer after a short illness. He was only 61. I worked with Chris for several years at Ogilvy, New York, primarily on IBM. I cannot imagine how his mentor and my friend, Steve Hayden must feel. With lots of others at Ogilvy, usually burning the midnight oil, we produced some great, award winning campaigns for a client that a few years earlier had been virtually written off. Chris said it best when he told Adweek in 2002 of his work on IBM... “We took a brand that was written off for dead, that had no new products, and helped make it relevant and fresh—part of the future instead of part of the past. What more can you expect advertising to do?” Damn right Chris. God bless.
