Forbes has an interesting review of a new book about Hewlett-Packard, with particular emphasis on the founders, Bill and Dave, and their particular style of management, which created a great company that is now turning into a steaming pile of shit. Out of curiosity I pulled up a list of top management since it was founded in 1947. Bill was there until 1987. Dave was there until 1993. Since then there have been THIRTEEN CEO’s and Chairmen. The rot started setting in when Lew Platt left in 1999 and brought in Carly Fiorina as CEO – In HP’s case that stands for Chief Execution Officer. It’s been downhill ever since… To “Homage” my favorite William Goldman line… “In management, no one knows fuck all about fuck all.” Yes indeed!
How would you feel about taking over as CEO?
