Today’s AdWeek is reporting that Volkswagen is meeting with five shops that are wetting their knickers at the prospect of landing the desirable auto account. The agencies are…Interpublic’s, The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., and Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey; Omnicom Group units DDB and Goodby, Silverstein in San Francisco; and Wieden + Kennedy in Portland. Wieden's last car account in the U.S was Subaru (1991-94). Read Randall Rothenberg’s great “Where the Suckers Moon” for the best description of how a dream account can quickly turn into a fucking nightmare! Here’s the best bit in the article… The meetings will take place at the agencies. Afterward, VW will likely narrow its list of contenders to three or four. Final presentations are expected in mid-October. So they hire an “Agency Search Consultant” to put together a short list of Five, then they narrow it down to a short-short list of FOUR! Fucking brilliant. Anyway, why fuck around… Just give it to Goodby.
Buy it... After The Ubiquitous Persuaders!
