So, the next spot from CP+B in the Microsoft “PC Hunter” campaign is out. This one features a guy by the name of Giampaolo (wasn’t he a famous clown?) This week’s “strategy du jour,” Seems to be power versus aesthetics. i.e. Macs look pretty, but PC’s kick arse. The spot features the faux Brazilian shopping for a big drive, big screen, big battery, big keyboard laptop… ‘Cos the dude has “big hands!” He drives around to different stores checking out the wares… Unfortunately, they all look like the same store… Fry’s. At least they didn’t fake an Apple store visit in this one. Comparison campaigns like this only work if there really is a discernable difference between the products, I’m not going to get into that fight, but lots of sites like AppleInsider, are all over it. My biggest problem with this new spot is that even though they have the luxury of 60 seconds, this clown never shuts the fuck up… He’s a regular Mr. Motor Mouth. I know it’s all about bits and bites, but even more importantly, it’s about communication. And as Lower Depths has pointed out not once does the spot say Microsoft. Just the Windows logo for a couple of seconds at the end. A lot of money to basically promote an HP laptop.
I found a boat anchor for under $1500!
