Oh wow... This is fucking great. AdScam and Agency Spy slugging it out toe to toe. Yeah, I commented yesterday that the MediaBistro site was becoming boring, not to mention being incredibly difficult to make comments on. I also suggested that Matt, the new guy, who seems like a really nice guy! Should say fuck, shit, wanker etc... Like "C" the original spy used to. So today, he hit me with a response, (every other word was "fuck") which is FUCKING great... 'Cos now we have a "Rumble" happening (No, not the Draft/FCB wanky type.) A Real one. He posts that I object to giving out my personal information... But, Matt, it's all over my fucking Web site and blogs. Anyone can contact me and call me a shithouse, I don't care... What I care about is giving it to some third party wanker, who will then sell it to some other third party wanker, who will then bombard me with spam shit. There's a difference there... I don't want my information sold... Unless I get a cut of the fucking proceeds... It's called capitalism. Anyway, my mates at the Tribble Agency have weighed in... With their own piss and vinegar comments, which I love and think is fucking great. Anyone else want to jump in? Winner buys the beers and mops up the blood and vomit!
I wanna Rumble with the Roses!!!

piss and vinegar!!! Thanks for love!! hahaha :)
It's all in good fun... we won't kill ourselves here .. .we can take a beating :)

Oh I hope you're ready for 15 rounds of gut wrenching, blood curdling action. Check back for more fellas.

Matt...
I'm ready... Tried to reply to that wanker commenting on AgencySpy with the uber clever hyphenated rant on me... Which made no fucking sense. Anyway, as the MediaBistro log-in procedure failed to recognize me for the millionth fucking time... I gave up. Seriously Matt... The mechanics of your site are FUCKED... In this day and age... Someone with half a brain should fix it!!!
Cheers/George

not seeing the potential rumble here. seems more like mike tyson in his prime facing off against gary coleman. y'all can guess which celebrity represents which blogger. but that's just my opinion.
p.s., wouldn't be surprised if the uber clever hyphenator was a mediabistro employee. they seem to be the only ones commenting over there.
cheers.

HighJive...
Nice one... You weren't hinting I was the Gary Coleman, were you? No Just kidding... I'm the evil dude with the tattoos... Yeah, maybe the guy is a MediaBistro wanker... Or, even worse, could be a Draft/FCB wanker jumping in at the deep end... 'Cos then he won't have to "Spend Time" in Louies Gym! Ouch!!!
Cheers/George

Gary Coleman is highly underestimated for his size and stature. And yeah our commenting needs HELP. Loyalties aside I think George has a lot to share about keeping it simple - maybe we can persuade the MB demigods to take a cue.
See what I can do.

I like Agency Spy.
I like Ad Rants.
I like AdScam.
I like Jaffe Juice.
All offer GREAT content. But you know what I love the most? A nice spirited debate and the ability to share my opinion. When something gets in the way of being able to converse, pontificate, and BS with others it makes the experience less enjoyable.
I'm just bummed that the folks at MediaBistro can't see the insanity of this situation. If you want metrics just measure post volume before and after. I guarantee you there was more post volume before.

What I find most perplexing in this scenario is the Sybil-like remarks/actions from Agency Spy employees. First they curse at visitors by telling us to quit whining and submit to their arcane system. Then they say they’ll look into making changes. Then they question people who don’t want to register. Yet they don’t see the irony and hypocrisy of the majority of their writers remaining anonymous. Then they have the audacity to ridicule agencies that won’t respond to their inquiries (fyi, no agency in its right mind would respond to an anonymous emailer—especially one who consistently rips agencies). Then they have the audacity to snap at George. Then they make like we’re all just having fun.
Theirs is a basic, fundamental advertising dilemma: the Agency Spy brand is suddenly fuzzy, and getting less distinct by the minute. The Mediabistro takeover is like if Richard Braniff sold his Virgin empire to SC Johnson. Sure, it’s their property, and they can do whatever they want with it. But don’t expect the original Agency Spy audience to stick around for the schizophrenic, sanitized version.
Don’t take this the wrong way, fellas. No doubt you’re fine and upstanding citizens. But please get your shit together. Your commenting doesn’t need help—your brand does.
P.S., Consider the lunacy of people commenting about you at other people’s blogs, for Christ’s sake! We don’t even want to go through the bother of debating directly with you.

George,
First, I think this Matt (If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much) Van Hoven used to write about dogs (transition makes sense to agency life) and he's obviously using your blog to drive traffic to AgencySpy.
Second, MB is an "old media" Company that has no idea of SEO/SEMs, etc.
For example, Try Googling "agencyspy"......WHAT HAPPENS?!!?? You end up at Agency Spy's *OLD* Wordpress site.
NOW, GO TO THAT SITE and click on the "PLEASE VISIT: www.mediabistro.com/agencyspy"
NOW WHAT HAPPENS???? You go right back to the *OLD* Wordpress site!!
FUCKING A Brilliant!!! These fucking guys deserve the top digital spot at FCB with Howard right on top of them.
Media Bistro,
That'll be $15 dollars for a seminar on how to get your fucking heads out of the mud!
Posted by: kypar | May 27, 2008 at 10:51 PM
kypar,
In lieu of a $15 payment, will you accept free admission to any Mediabistro online course or seminar?
Posted by: HighJive | May 27, 2008 at 11:39 PM
George, I would do a self-colorectal exam to probe why Nina DiSesa is commenting on my blog. Didn't she write a piece for some industry rag whining about blogs?
Second, it is Richard BRANSON (not Braniff the dead airline) that could sell Virgin anything, sweet cheeks. You know Branson....where bad comedians and old singers go to die? Same same.
I truly hope this isn't the real DiSesa writing the comment. If so, I'll have to resort to reading Adweek online.

AgencySpy has just broken the #1 rule of blogging – allowing uncensored commentary on their posts. Without it you are not really blogging , you are posting “articles”. If you want to post “articles” then please feel free to do so, but don’t give me some bullshit about “spammer” comments bothering you so that is the reason you will not allow free for all comments on your site.
That is total bullshit. If you want to ensure that your blog is clean of spammers, all it takes is a little bit of time out of your day to monitor your comments and delete the spam. Why not just be honest and say – we want nice comments only, or we are scared shitless someone will sue us, or we want to build a database of people to send shit to.
Stop treating us like idiots and selling us some shit lines about how you are “protecting yourself from spammer”. We are not buying it.

media bistro is comprised of cub scouts who want to be respected as big time bloggers and journalists. Then they act like stenographers, rushing out to type in rumors about people's failings and 'report' it as a fact.
They don't know the difference between journalism and gossip. They feel they are getting the inside story for our benefit. At least Mr. Packer doesn't act as a poseur 'journalist'.
He's a blunt opinionated misanthropic curmudgeon with a small but highly effective vocabulary.
Posted by: oy | May 28, 2008 at 09:35 AM
Hmm. I'm not sure there's a real need her to rumble, more of a need to fumble, and by that, I mean AgencySpy's approach to the issue at hand.
Much like the authors of other contributions here I don't buy this "we need you to sign up in order to comment so that we can stop spammers" line.
It's one more step between a reader and a contributor and frankly, most people can't be arsed with crap like that, so they walk, and nary a click of an ad to bring dollars into the coffers.
Whoops, that's kinds the whole point of having ads on your blog, n'est pas?
If the line about spam was a horse it'd wind up being taken behind the type barn where it would be adorded with a bit of lead in its ear. Spammers have got better things to do that clog up the Agencyuy Spy site with spam.
AgencySpy people, it's yer blog and you can do what the fuck you like with it, but if your intention is to make money you need people to keep coming back and for them to click on your ad-based links.
In order to keep people coming back you need content that people want to read. No content, no readers. No readers, no ad income.
Either open comments up to all, all holds barred and banned, or post no comments at all and maintain your site as opinion content only.
If it's the former, fine, take away all restrictions and publish and be damned (and spammed). But if you're going to do the latter, your content had better be good.
Might be tie her for peope to consider whether they want to take it all in their stride or whether it's time to hang up their blogging shoes and stop walking.
Posted by: popgoestheweasel | May 28, 2008 at 11:21 AM
"Might be tie her for peope"? Huh? I know those last three G&Ts were a mistake.

Can't we all just get along?
Posted by: Jeremy Mott | May 28, 2008 at 12:08 PM
Okay, comment talk is nice and all, but let’s keep our eyes on the prize people: Gary Coleman is a southpaw—VERY tricky to fight. Coupled with height thing and it’s easy to see how he can disable opponents by working the proverbial speed bag(s) after sneaking under a punch.
Posted by: bg | May 28, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Finally some levity. Like George, I really can't comment on the...comments. That's an administrative thing that I have nothing to do with. I do, however, want to keep a healthy conversation going.
On that note - Coleman has been out of the public eye since, well, 1982 at least. He's probably been doing something in all that time.
Any guesses? Writing about pets, maybe. But mostly fine-tuning his ability to kick where it counts. Where Tyson takes an ear, Coleman takes...

Plus, he has spare time now that he's getting divorced. (Gary, not George.) Or maybe George is, not sure. George, confirm or deny? Has the woman of the house finally said “It’s the blog or me!”?
Posted by: bg | May 28, 2008 at 02:20 PM
Hmmm. Last night, in regards to comments at Agency Spy, Van Hoven said, “See what I can do.” Less than 24 hours later, he’s sputtering, “I really can’t comment on the…comments. That’s an administrative thing that I have nothing to do with.” Didn’t take long for Mediabistro to put him in his place…? Whatever.
Regarding Gary Coleman, the man has been in the news. He got married and has already appeared on Divorce Court. Please keep up with the times, friend.
Posted by: HighJive | May 28, 2008 at 03:06 PM
BG...
No, the wife is still here... Fuck knows why. Could be all the money I give her and the fact that I tell her every morning she's "the luckiest woman in the world." Then she kicks me in the balls. It's a great way to start the day off.
Jeremy...
Why the fuck would you want everyone to get along. It's much more fun to kick the shit out of people, particularly when they deserve it.
Cheers/George
Posted by: George Parker | May 28, 2008 at 03:49 PM
also, Jeremy, the rodney king phrase that everyone manages to misquote is, "People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along? Can we get along?"
Posted by: HighJive | May 28, 2008 at 04:38 PM
Sorry I missed all the piss and vinegar, but my dog died. Seriously. Took me a couple of days and bottles of Svedka to cope, and I need to work my ass off to pay the bill, but anyway.....
Mediabistro, stop trying to be all things to all people, mediawise anyway. Are you a blog? Are you a job site? Are you a link to a Rachel Ray cook book? I DON'T FUCKING GET IT!
Posted by: Auntie Christ | May 28, 2008 at 06:14 PM
Last night my laptop crashed - ah, so when that happens it means I can't use the Web site. So, unfortunately I'm without it for (I'm told) 5 days.
No one has put me in my place, except for Apple, so to speak.
Posted by: Matt Van Hoven | May 28, 2008 at 06:23 PM
Now Rodney King would be a great endorser for Geico.
Posted by: Joyce Kilmer | May 29, 2008 at 08:18 AM
Joyce,
Yes, it could be one of the series where King would be a real Geico customer, and to embellish his story, they’d hire Rev. Al Sharpton.

I've read all I can stand and I can't stand anymore.
Agencyspy USED to to be exactly what their name implied, juicy mostly correct insider info on our industry. They are that no longer especially with the departure of Superspy or agencyspy or whichever spy it is that actually worked in the biz.
This new douchebag, Matt, just cuts and pastes articles from Adweek and Adage, Computerworld or wherever and calls it insider info. Sorry pal, that doesn't cut it.
I guarantee you the readership has dropped dramatically since the switchover. I used to check it daily now I just go back to see how pathetic it is once a week or so.
Oh well, just another flash in the pan for an industry full of them. Too bad, they coulda been somebody, they coulda been a contender. Now they're just bums.
PS George layoff the rants on conferences, only loser account people and washed up CDs go to those things. I guarantee you they aren't reading this blog. You know they suck. We know they suck. Let's move on.
