I'll fucking drink to that -JWT!
This just in... JWT New York announced that they are re-opening their in-house bar... How fucking great is that? It used to be the hub of the agency... Then they got religion and closed it down about five years ago. Which pissed off a large number of people. Many a happy and boozy evening has been spent in that establishment with my old - and still - friends, Bill, Ivan, and many others who may not wish to have their names splashed around on the world's most notorious Ad Blog. But hey... Fuck it. So, c'mon Ty and Bob, invite me over for a pop or two!
Fuckin' A!

In "olden times" circa Mad Men, the JWT bar was called "The Meeting" (this dates back to the late 60's) and it was known to make some of the meanest martinis in town. When wives would call their husbands at J. Walter Thompson the secretaries would simply tell them that their husbands were "in The Meeting" and none were the wiser.....

I remember a strip club in London that was called The Office for similar reasons...."Yes dear, I'm still at the office."
When you went into one of their old style phone booths (pre cell phones!) there was a soundtrack playing in the background of typewriters. I kid you not...typewriters!
Damn we worked hard in those days.

When I first started off in advertising (early 90s) the JWT bar was a major destination on (I think) Thursday nights. I remember it being really crowded, needing tickets to buy drinks and thinking that it was very cool to be working in a business where companies had their own bar. Zero atmosphere- it felt like a cafeteria, but I was young enough not to care.

And to think, I had to bring my own to work.

I can appreciate the charms of the in-house bar. Working for a small agency though, I've got to make do with a fifth of Jameson in the desk drawer and lots of closed door meetings with the other writers.

I remember, with great fondness, "Roses's Room" at Ogilvy when it was 2East 48th. Not exactly a bar but a great place for lunch and half decent wine in the evening. The real piss artists repaired to the real O&M bar across the street - Ratazzi's. Bucket-sized Vodka Gibsons and the check was sent directly to the accounts' department. Now THOSE were the days!

Has this bar been reopened as a revenue generator for the agency, in lieu of new business wins and increased billings with existing clients?

the bar at O&M on 49th was not too bad either...where else could you go get a cold Guiness and kick Bill Hamilton's ass at the pool table ?
only to have him return the favor the next day when you showed your work.
now it's all cubicles and cafeteria...

Hey Matt you brought back some great memories. I grew up in Ratazzi's, Dick was my godfather. And those were drinks. I could name a dozen ad men
who not only spent their lunch there but their evenings as well.... bring back the 3 martini lunch.
When JWT had Burger King the entire creative team would meet at the JWT bar for brain sessions....Those were the days

Yeah, but you can still poke her. Or even superpoke!

It's a smart move.
I worked for JWT until bailing recently.
Booze. All day. May have at least dulled some of the pain.

Hello Racoonboy, Matt's was the post above mine. You might remember Charles F. Frost (His name was in a million wallets).
