Paul Tilley... Final words!
This is my third and final post on Paul Tilley. Thanks for the support most of you showed in your comments on my last post... I was going to say to JAN... You are a truly fucked up and sick person. But I won't, because if you really believe what you wrote, then you are merely pathetic. I also think that the various wankers who have made vile comments on AgencySpy are beneath contempt. Particularly Nina DiSesa, Chairman of McCann NY, who seems to think that all ad blogs are written by anonymous people who failed in their careers. I am not anonymous, I have not failed, and I happen to think the vast majority of the work that comes out of McCann is shit... So if that gets her knickers in a twist, my email is on this blog and my phone numbers and address are on my web site. On a final note, I suggest anyone who still feels pissed of at me and Agency Spy should contact DDB Chicago. They know why he committed suicide. And it didn't have anything to do with what he read on a blog. That's it, comment away. There will be no more posts on this subject.

There's definitely more under the surface here.....a lot more. You don't get to his position if you can't take critcism, waranted or otherwise.

I don't regret my words. They were true. I knew him. And I know your words tortured his soul.

I don't regret my words. They were true. I knew him. And I know that the vile attacks inflicted on him by you and others tortured his soul. He told me so.

Jan...
Fuck off!

Don't look at yourself too long in the mirror tonight, George. It may prove maddening. I suppose you can always dull your senses with alcohol. You'll need lots of it.

We deflate the pompous and are trying to weed out individuals who claim the most spoils, yet display the least competence. It is called the restoration of natural order.
This has never been about cruelty, just truth served from the breath of some serious maniacs. On the occasion we get it wrong, the odd mea culpa follows.
Just leave the industry? How about we are going to drive you 10 times more crazy than you have driven us (a herculean task to be sure).
Obviously they don't know obstinacy. Hell, we've only just begun...truth, served however tastelessly, is still delicious.
The information contained herein provides insight into where not to work or advertise. And even if it were false, please remember that you are the cretins who put forth the horrible concept that perception trumps reality. Eat this, you made it.
(This sounds suspiciously like a Surgeon General's warning. Do we even have a Surgeon General anymore?)

Jan, enough please.
At this moment, I've no doubt Tilley's family would appreciate some peace and quiet. A prayer silently uttered is more appropriate than splashing more vitriol about.

The true measure of a person (I never even heard of this guy) IS NOT HOW THEY TREAT THEIR SUPERIORS AND PEERS, it's how they treat the average Joe/Jane. Most of the individual's that have been singled out seem to have led a dual (false) existence, nice to those they need, cold and callous to those who provide them no service. Pointing out a truly lame-a-mundo memo hardly falls under the term "vile".
How about doing something novel like making some money for your firm? According to the statistics, you need it.

If someone I loved passed, the last place I would be looking is Adscam.

Jan, do you honestly expect us to believe that words on these blogs caused Tilley the turmoil and grief required to commit suicide? Loyalty to your friend is fine, but no one buys that Agency Spy or George Parker were the cause of this mans demise. If you think that this was even the straw that broke the camels back, you are deluded. A man in Tilleys position should have a hide thick as a rhino and he undoubtedly endured much crtiticism on his way up. There is other muck afoot here, which you may already know if you were his confidant. Most people are trying to be polite and respectful. But when you come on to these sites with the notion that the bloggers who were critical of Tilley's professional life were culpable to pushing Tilley off the roof, that is narrow and idiotic. The saddest part about this mess is that Tilley most likely had options as to how to deal with his problems. His wife and children do not.

I don't understand people who are so cowardly, they don't sign their names. George, you didn't have anything to do with the guy's death. And anyone who thinks so should sign their names.

To be fair, let me revise that to say, "Everyone, enough please."
How full of self-importance are we that we must continue to hear ourselves bitch and complain and argue at such an inappropriate moment?
Everyone on both sides, shut up and show the family some respect.
Posted by: theo kie | February 25, 2008 at 01:51 PM
And the posts written by purported members of Tilleys family on Agency Spy? C'mon, they are busy with death certificates/making arrangements/contacting family/dealing with finance etc. The last thing they would be doing now is trolling about the internet googling their loved one....

theo kie,
I have tried on other blogs to encourage people to cease and desist on this topic. It doesn’t seem to work. I would argue the critics (who insist blogs or others are responsible for the tragedy) are going through the mourning process—their comments should be considered from that perspective.
I would also urge everyone to consider the following before hitting the post button on any blog: Would you be comfortable making the statement directly to Tilley’s wife and children? If not, please keep your opinions private.

Poor Paul...
Standing on the sidelines as this comment wave has progressed, each and every one of you has perpetuated this into a "Stop talking about it" comment loop. The kind of thing that happens when recipients 'reply all' to a 'reply all' email saying "please don't reply all".

Wisey... That's too fucking deep for me. You can explain it over a drink sometime.
Cheers/George

Nina DiSesa didn't really like Paul Tilley. What she liked about him is that he easily fell for her disingenuous flirtations, which she expertly used to squeeze more time and energy out of him. If you don't believe me, you can read about it in her book, "Seducing the Boys Club," available for $16.50, from Ballantine. (Available on Amazon.com)

Stop it, all of you. This is a travesty. No more replies, please, even to this. Let that be the end of it, wherever you stand on the issue.
I don't want to see another word written about this here, anonymous or otherwise.

This calls for a digression of sorts. In case anyone is interested why Nina DiSesa is so pissed at bloggers, here’s the answer:

100W33, where in hell do you think you are and who in hell are YOU to tell people to stop commenting on George's blog? If YOU go away then YOU won't have to see another word and YOU can stop making an ass out of yourself by ordering everyone around.. Sounds like you're getting yourself into a bit of a tizzy sweetie...one might also question your credibility since you're a die hard supporter of Draft and his sleazy gaggle of fools...listen you jerk, get your own damn blog if you want to order people around!!

wow. glad i stayed out of it so far....
Tilley's dead. we don't know why.
neither does anyone else, Jan.
if anyone believes that after years of killing other peoples ideas because they didn't fit his version of the clients needs, he read a few words disparaging him and efforts and killed himself, you're next.
this was years in making. suicide is not an impulse buy generally. all the people that knew him should turn their gazes inward and ask themselves what they knew, saw or thought that might have helped change Pauls mind. not sure that anything would have though.
if his family and friends are reading this blog, my heartfelt condolences.

100w33's comment made me laugh hysterically. See- that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! I feel like 100w33 was trying to demonstrate my point.

It seems that DDB itself can't stay out of the frayed edges of the blogosphere. Of special note is the comment by "peace."

My best friend killed himself when I was a teenager. His parents, friends, acquaintances left behind looking for clues that drove him to this step. It's very human to look to others for blame. But it's wrong. The responsibility is with the person who makes the final decision. Period.
I just hope that his kids and wife will be able to adjust to this new reality. It's the living we should be worried about.

I am shocked and sickened by the fact that this forum even exists. You people give the ad business a bad name. I worked with Paul in his early years in the business and he was brilliant in his early 20s. I can only imagine that he was simply the best in the field at the time of his death. Are you jealous? Or are you all just a bunch of insecure sickos that should be at work brainstorming and actually doing your job instead of picking apart a dead man. The strangers who didn't even know him were vastly more compassionate than people he worked with. What if his wife reads all this shit you freaks wrote? You can actually be smart, successful AND creative while possessing a backbone. My heart aches for the loss his family is feeling. You should worry about yourselves and show some respect for the dead, regardless of your own personal feelings.
