After reading the comments of "Toad - Tom - Zippy - Bruce - Ralf - Veedub - Highjive," and particularly Tom Messner, concerning my post about Phil's death, I realize that as usual, I was trying to be too fucking clever about a momentous and rather serious current event. I should have realized that Dusenberry belongs in the pantheon of the Ad Greats along with Bill, David, Jay, Howard, Gene, and others my alcohol destroyed brain can no longer remember... Just taking the piss here, because I am still as sharp as a pin... What's a pin by the way? High Jive called it right with my comment about "Star Fucking." Those spots were relevant to the brand... At the beginning. But, as Phil became less and less involved, they become less and less relevant. Toad also called it right, that one of the reasons for the celebs was that the products were just "Me-Too." And therefore had no significant benefits. Bruce hits the nail on the head with his comment on the new kids. I remember just a few years ago, talking to a young creative team at JWT and mentioning Mary Wells... To which they both replied "Mary Who!!!" That's the kind of shit that makes you feel REALLY fucking old. Finally... Tom... Is there anyway I can send a card or flowers to either the wake or the service at Loyola... My all time favorite place to sit and think that maybe Jackie-O's ass was on the same pew mine is currently on!!! 'Cos at my age, that's pretty fucking exciting! Final thought... I have to give up the demon weed... It's what eventually killed Phil... But hey, at my age, what's another few months? Happy New Year/George.
