Ogilvy... The bloodbath will be on Tuesday!
My New York spies inform me that heads will roll at Ogilvy this coming Tuesday, the 8th. The word is that there will be cuts of between 10 & 15% in the New York office alone... that's 200 plus people... Most impacted will be the "Suits." But this will obviously not involve Senior Management from Shelley on down. Even though these are the people ultimately responsible for not picking up one worthwhile piece of new business in the last four fucking years. I wonder if they'll get rid of the wanker they replaced Bruce Lee with at Ogilvy One. Word from inside is that he's fucking clueless and just pisses everyone off with his incompetence. The "Poisoned Dwarf" must be kicking the shit out of the tiny furniture in his basement lair. And poor David must be spinning like a fucking top in the Chateaux mausoleum.

I have friends at Ogilvy and, like the people who were let go at DraftFCB last summer, they don't deserve to be shit on like this.
How considerate to wait until after the holidays. Happy fuckin' New Year.

Bruce Lee was never replaced. Two of the GCDs under him were supposedly promoted to take over his responsibilities, but they seem to be figureheads at best.

Ogilvy is just one of the shops that needs a management overhaul. But agency management is a lot like the pro-gun folks: you're going to have to pry their cold, dead fingers from their paychecks.

When the people at the top are utter control freaks, you develop a culture below them of people whose main talent is following orders.
The creative department is somewhat schizoid in its hiring practices: they hire superstars from hot boutique agencies for the general shop and those guys wind up leaving after six months of being treated like juniors. Then, for OgilvyOne, they hire random hacks whose main draw is the low salary they'll accept and the gratitude they'll show for even being allowed into the building. In other words, people who will gladly take orders from the general creative department the way their ECD does.
Dozens upon dozens of well-paid permalancers fill out the picture.
The people at the top suffer from serious myopia and honestly do not understand why clients aren't lining up to hire Ogilvy.
And don't forget the scandals around the place, both professional and personal.

Scandals, you say?

why not just transfer the good ones to davinci?

Perhaps they should change the title of David Ogilvy’s autobiography to read: Bloodbaths, Brainless & No Beer Account.

Will Hillary follow in the path of other Change Agents?
“Hillary’s got good plans,” Mr. Clinton kept saying as he worked through a hoarse-voiced litany of why his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, is a “world-class change agent.”

And Hillary has what to do with people losing their jobs at Ogilvy? I'm all for political discussion, but I don't think we're talking about that right now.

davinci seems close to announcing its management team. maybe this is a sign that some will come from ogilvy? if so, it is doomed from the day it starts.

Again as far as Bruce is concerned, you can't fire someone you had an affair with. Looks bad. Very bad.
As an aside, anyone know whatever became of Bruces old partner from Wunderman days, Charles? Hopefully he was found out to be the fraud that he is.

WPP should have shuttered both its Ogilvy and JWT offices in Chicago two years ago. Both being "run" by proxy out of NYC. Neither has any clients or talent of any note.

If anyone has any names or contact information for the Ogilvy employees who get laid off - please contact me at elstormoen@hotmail.com. I have a client, a large international agency, looking for talent to help them transition to a more digital focus. It is a great opportunity.

Noone has said why Ogilvy got this way and what should be changed. Who cares about layoffs. Every agency does this. Why do they suck today when they were so good before..
