Draft/FCB layoffs... 50 = 130 = Bullshit!
The news today in AdWeek (accompanied by a radiant picture of "Laurence of the Capuchins") Tells how Draft/FCB will be laying off 50 people this week... Sorry, AdWeek. The actual number will be 130 and the doomed will learn of their fate on Thursday. Amongst those made to walk the plank will be several long term employees of FCB, with many years of service under their belt. But fuck it, someone has to pay for Laurence's in-office gym and Howard's Aston Martin repair bills. So, all you old geezers... "You're fucked!" Interesting rumbles on the possible fate of Uber-Creative-Fuehrer, Chris Becker... Is he staying... Is he biting the pillow for a few more months 'til he sets up his next mega-gig... Will he swear undying fealty to "Hughie, Duey & Louie?" Don't know at the moment, but never fear, I'll find out, then AdScam readers will be the first to know.
The good ship Draft/FCB sets sail for new adventures!

They have been staggering the layoffs for weeks already. The 50 will be for the press. The other 80 or so will happen at other times this way they can appear to not be in dire straights.

not sure where you get your info, but from where I'm sitting...it's absolutely correct. Lots of casualties over there today...

Rivet President Furth Prepares to Retire
http://www.adweek.com/aw/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003612763
Talk about good timing
Posted by: Riveting | July 17, 2007 at 06:48 PM
you gotta give the draft/fcb guys some credit for trying to be different. what has jwt, ddb, o + m to say that's interesting and newsworthy. talk about bda's.
and there are some really good people at draft
Posted by: justasking | July 17, 2007 at 08:08 PM
justasking,
Trying to be different? Can you elaborate a little?
There are good people at every agency. That doesn't mean that the company is interesting and news worthy.
Hell, Enron was news worthy
Posted by: huh | July 17, 2007 at 09:12 PM
i worked on the Enron account, and did some fine work for it, way back when, as well as Ford, Jaguar, etc., ... can anyone show me fine work out of Daft? Interesting work?
having good people doesn't mean they will produce good work. sure, the potential is there, and these people are fun to have lunch or drinks with, but at thet end of the day, the agency model takes over and produces the product the heads of state say must be produced...
and to date, that's mighty rare at Daft... trying to be different is what EVERYONE at EVERY AGENCY does, why cut a group like Daft any slack?

Furth was recognized as "Direct Marketing Woman of the Year" by the ladies who lunch not too long back. It's amazing, from the top of your game to retirement in a couple of years thanks to a little experiment called DraftFCB. I wonder what kind of severance her "retirement" comes with.....

Good work! I was wondering what the real number was. 130 = approx. 8.5%. That's big!! And IPG stock getting slammed today.
Anyway, DFCB continues the FCB legacy of the worst management (from C level down to CDs) I've ever experienced - anywhere!
I predict - more to come! When Becker goes they'll really clean house in creative.
Finally, blatant age discrimination should result in class action lawsuit. But everyone will be too scared to make the move.

Oh.....PUHLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: rondahoohoo | July 25, 2007 at 09:08 AM
Venom? You must be kidding! Before DFCB hires a creative manager, they test for venom levels. If they're not high enough, no deal! A bigger bunch of back-stabbing, back-biting, back-sliding bunch of losers can't be found! WITH SOME EXCEPTIONS, NO DOUBT. But the aforementioned GCDs are not among them.
Sorry. You are wrong. I am right.

Just when you thought it was safe to pick up your voicemail - I hear there's more slicing and dicing going on. Anybody?

Just heard too-2-faced Amanda got it. She's been given 2 weeks to pull her (other people's) stuff together and get out.

You're sh*tting me! Is that true? Please confirm.

Seniority didn't mean shit on D-Day July 17th...all the years given to keep the original Foote, Cone & Belding going strong meant nothing to new management. That comment about Chris "Pecker" was pretty funny,,,he does have the foulest mouth in the industry. Studio and related departments took a big hit except for the usual ass-licking brown-nosers that Mr. Big considers his family...NEPOTISM at its best!!!
Posted by: insideman | July 30, 2007 at 07:21 AM
Hey man. Who is "Mr. Big?"
whadda bout ms. wendy lorrie? and grebey. what they fuck did they do to all those former draft people that got them there?
Posted by: fatwaonmission | August 06, 2007 at 06:17 PM
Yes and one more thing...who'se up the ass of loaurence more...greby or lorrie?
Posted by: fatwa | August 06, 2007 at 06:31 PM
Glad to hear that most of the July 17th (FCB)casualties have gotten some kind of work...YES, there is life after DRAFTFCB. Howard, you personally fired Bob Oates, the best person in the company because he voiced everyone's opinion about how you waste company funds and blow huge accounts?
Posted by: insideman | August 21, 2007 at 01:55 PM
You guys think Draft is fucked up? Talk to anyone from Omnicom's Unit7. Idi Amin aka Loreen Babcock is a fucking psyhco bitch from hell.
