Make everything bigger!
I just noticed something on my last post with the side-by-side comparison of the current CP+B, VW ad and the forty year old DDB, VW ad... In the CP+B ad, done by the "Hip & Groovy" guys in Florida who are establishing new paradigms in breakthrough communications... The car is bigger... The headline is bigger... And the fucking logo is bigger... And the worst thing of all... It's for the same client. They could have sold in something better simply on the basis of what helped build the brand in the first place. But on the other hand... Maybe they actually think this is better! Helmut would have fucking killed them... Standing by for comments from "MakeTheLogoBigger."

I didn’t want to steal your glory, but you’re correct—that was a big fucking logo.

Have to dig out that old CA article by Riney. Remember that one, George? How to improve an ad...Ah, what fun.

remember when Paula Scher did her hommage of the Swiss tourism posters re-rendered for Swatch? not one mention of thanks to Herbert Motter (the original) and then there was all the stuff for Joe Papps Public Theater? again, no mention of thanks or heritage for the originator, Piet Zwart...
you expect honor amongst thieves, sirrah!

An interesting lesson in how quickly an agency can go from "we just need to generate talk" to borrowing from traditionalist Ogilvy marketing.
I wonder if this return to the classics is a way for CP&B to ingratiate themselves with the people at VW, now that the "change agent" who brought them in has been jettisoned from the company. Hmmm....

Oops. My bad. I meant Bernbach, not Ogilvy.

Theo, that's ok. David won't mind anymore.

Actually, to make ammends, I channeled David last night via Ouiji board. He said he chatted with Bill, and everything was cool...although they thought the logo on CP&B's print was too big.

Theo...
Cut the crap...
David only speaks to me... As does Howard, Helmut, Bill, Jay... And everyone else who once described me as "The Emperor of the Known Universe!"
Cheers/George
