I'll bet some dufus at the agency, either a suit with an MBA, or a creative fucking genius with twenty grams of Peruvian marching powder up his nose said "Why don't we humanize Charles and make him Chuck?" Jesus, the high fives must have generated callouses the size of golf balls by the time they finished dancing around the conference room table.
